In the school of Feng Shui, the sector of wealth is in the direction of South-Est. You can dedicate to this sector a part of the house or just a part of the room in the house, oriented to SE. It depends on your house's proportions and the availability of space. Desirable would be dedicating as much space as you can: all the area from the center of the house directing to South-East, as it shows the Bagua Map, and enters into the margins covered by the Lo-Shu square (see in details how it is measured in the first two parts dedicated to Feng Shui on my blog). This part of the house would be perfect for allocating the living room, dining room, home office, or personal workshop. Here will be possible to place several symbols that will bring wealth and money profits, reminding you that as with everything in Feng Shui, it is essential not to exaggerate and keep it appropriate. 

If the South-East of your house/apartment turned to be the bedroom or your kid's bedroom, I would suggest NOT to dedicate here the Wealth; as an alternative, Feng Shui suggests to dedicate the SE direction of your home office or living room to this purpose. Because in the bedroom, the energy of wealth and prosperity can take away your sleep and may negatively influence your health, even worsen a couple’s relationship. In the kid’s bedroom, it is also not recommended, because of the educational purposes: first to your kids must be their success, knowledge, and development, not the parent’s money and power.

Activating this sector does not mean bringing random fortune, like winning a lottery ticket; the purpose is to increase our energetic field and capacity to gain material benefits (money, wages, profit from investments, etc). Therefore, this sector is also called the sector of Power. By “power” is implied a set of capacities, skills, and professionalism, we can use to gain the fortune we need in life. Moreover, by activating this zone, we fortify and protect what we already managed to achieve so far. 

Once you have identified the sector of wealth's exact position in your house, look around and notice what is there. First, declutter and trash everything you kept unused, old, and broken (this is important for all the sectors, nut particularly for this!) – they might create obstacles on your way to achieve wealth. Clean around and put in order. Also, take away everything that may remind you of sadness and unpleasant memories. These kinds of things hold negative energy. Afterward, think of WHO or WHAT precisely helps you gain material goods and identify the symbols of those resources. The resources of money can very diversely depend on a person’s activity. In ancient times, when people were living from agriculture and farmer, these resources were easy to count, since it was mainly related to harvest and fertility. Modern living is quite complex, but you can quickly turn on the imagination and look at the multitude of revenue sources you have at your disposal. 

For example, an architect can place here a selection of the best books in design and architectural styles, or the best projects, along with a set of marbles and other materiality used for work. A writer can place its writer machine, while an actor can keep here best awards or scenarios. A housekeeper may stay here the portrait of her beloved husband if he is entirely providing for her. Moreover, what is also very important is to not confuse the symbol of wealth with the resources of wealth. A fashion designer (or a sartor) doesn’t have to place here the entire working desk (the resource of wealth); it will be sufficient to keep here a selection of the best silks, patterns, or a set of prestigious custom buttons (the symbols of wealth). Here is the best place to hang awards and diplomas received in the field of your professional activity. You can also place an image or a symbol of what you would like to achieve, or whom you wish to become, or what draws you to new achievements. 

There is another aspect to be considered. If your purpose with working is to obtain more love and respect (as an example, foundations to save children), in this case, will be much better to focus on increasing the energetic field in the Sector of Love (direction South-West) or/and the Sector of Reputation and Fame (direction South). Or, if your work is to raise wise kids (an example, teaching), then better to activate the energetic field in the Sector of Knowledge (direction North-East) and the Sector of Children (direction West). The idea is to analyze and think deeply about what the real purpose is of what you are doing in life and activate those areas. And since it is quite challenging to choose one field, increase the energetic fields in proportion to all the sectors of life, starting with what currently is missing/suffering the most. 

Let us see together some of the most common symbols and methods Feng Shui is offering to potentiate the Sector of Wealth:

1/ The best would be to have your symbol of wealth, which you could create using a pot and some coins. Here is what you will need and how you can make it. Take a vase, a bowl, or a vessel, which can be made of high-quality porcelain, crystal, silver, and nephritis, or only in wood, glass, or ceramics. Choose any size you like, considering how many “magical coins” you want to place in it, and remember, it must be filled to the brim! Another important aspect is that the vessel must be made of a natural material (no plastic or other artificial materials). On the very bottom, put the coins, usually of the country’s currency, you live (not souvenir coins). These coins can be of any denomination, but preferably not the smallest. Choose an odd number of coins, like three, seven, or nine. Unpaired numbers hold Yang energy and are associated with growth and activity. Sometimes, these coins are first placed inside a red pouch to avoid early mold on coins. Afterward, spread on top your favorite cereals to you associated with wealth (like rice, grain, etc) and cover coins completely. Ensure the cereals are clean and dry – they must resist in good condition for at least one year. This ritual is to “attract good harvest” to the family. After one year, you shall change cereals with fresh new ones for a “new harvest”. Under these seeds, you could also bury a wish, like the image of a car, your desire, or the house of your dreams, or something else – it is like writing a letter to Santa Claus for Christmas. In the end, fill the bowl with natural stones of five different colors, representing the five elements: red, green, white, yellow, and blue. The presence of all these elements will guarantee harmony in your family and house. Also, you could insert here a small piece of gold or silver, the essence of Metal. Hide this bowl in the South-East part of your home (or room), in a discreet place, away from prying eyes (in a wardrobe, on a high shelf, etc.). 

2/ However, if you do not have such a personalized symbol and are not sure how to create one, then the most common method is to use general Chinese symbolism. The most common is the three-legged toad sitting on coins, and holding in the mouth a currency is one of the most diffused symbols, and it is considered it attracts wealth into the house. You can find this symbol in many Chinese shops and on the internet, bigger and smaller, made of different materials (ceramics, stone, quartz). The power of its influence does not depend on the size or material, so you choose to make sure it fits organically into space. 

3/ A diffused symbol is the god of prosperity Hotei – a smiling pot-bellied god holding beads in one hand and a sack on the other hand. One of the legends tells it was a happy monarch wandering around the world. In his backpack, he was keeping a fortune so he could enjoy life benefits, while on his other hand, was keeping beads to remind him about the spirit and pray. 

Another symbol, always representing the god of prosperity Hotei, is a statue where this smiling pot-bellied god is holding in his hand a gold bar, very similar to a boat.

Do not confuse it with another similar statue, where always a smiling pot-bellied god is surrounded by many children. This symbol is for Love's sector when the family has no kids or not yet enough to fulfill happiness. 

4/ Another excellent symbol of prosperity is a sailboat. In Chinese culture, a sailboat symbolizes wealth since ancient times when on its cargo were brought precious goods from overseas territories. Important aspect: orient the bark bow towards the room, not to the door, another way the wealth will “float away” in the opposite direction. Today it is possible to find so many models, from the simplest to some collections exhibits, depending on your preferences. 

5/ The element of small Wood governs the sector of wealth, so to potentiate this sector's energy, it will help place many small healthy plants. The most favorable plants are the ones that are small and have thick, rounded, or oval leaves. 

6/ This sector can also be decorated with articles in wood and green colored decorations. They also hold the energy of Wood and will help to potentiate the energy.

7/ In the creation cycle, we saw that the element Water “feeds” Wood, so in this area will be favorable to place an aquarium with fishes, a small waterfall or fountain, or even home decorations in blue.

If you choose an aquarium, make it proportionate in size to the room: not too big to look half empty, nor too small and tight for the number of fishes. There is a belief in China that eight golden fishes plus one blackfish will bring into house a big fortune. However, the number of fishes is entirely up to you. Other numbers have a better significance; some may say one, others may say seven (there is no wrong choice; choose the odd number). The most important is to keep it clean, pure transparent water and fishes fed and healthy. If one fish die, do not panic; replace it with a new one. 

If you choose a fountain or a waterfall, make sure it will continuously work and that everybody in the house is happy with its presence. To some family members, the constant sound of water may be annoying, so be sure it does not cause negative feelings. The energy of water is potent as the energy of fire, so you must choose wisely and make sure it will improve your everyday activity, not creating discomfort. Aesthetically it must be inviting and pleasant. 

8/ Objects made of glass also carry the energy of water. This allows us to take a beautiful glass vase filled with flowers and place it on the South-East side of our house (or office), which will perfectly fit Wood and Water's energy. 

9/ The wood element is represented by a vertical rectangular, so decorations of this shape and form, mostly if made of beautiful wood carving, also will be suitable for the South-East area. 

Dedicating attention and efforts in potentiating energy in the Wealth sector, do not forget that material benefits bring happiness only when other life areas are also fulfilled. A strong relationship with your family members, good health, and a loving partner is as meaningful as the achievement of wealth and prosperity.
